Cops’ data-without-borders law under review

The legislation allowing US and Australian law enforcement authorities to seize data from people’s social media and emails accounts to counter serious crime will be reviewed by Parliament’s joint security committee.

The review of schedule one of the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 is required as a safeguard for the controversial powers and must occur within five years from the legislation passing in 2021.
