Without a real plan, data centres will exploit Australia, experts warn

Leading academics have called for a halt on data centre fast tracking in Australia until a new national regulatory framework is in place to drive more accountability and community benefits from the facilities.

The proposed framework for data centres would force operators to disclose their clients and gain community consent for new developments, as well as enforcing strict reporting rules and thresholds on energy and water usage.
