Supercomputer chiefs warn of another ‘heavily oversubscribed’ year


Australia’s research compute capacity is falling critically short of demand, the heads of the country’s two public supercomputers have warned lawmakers, with both facilities set to be “heavily oversubscribed” for a second consecutive year.

As many as 200 applications could be turned away by the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre and National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) as part of the 2027 intake as demand shows no sign of letting up.
