An Animal Logic to Export Awards

The Sydney-based digital movie studio Animal Logic and Tasmania’s Echoview Software – which build hydra-acoustic data visualisations for assessing fish populations in the wild – were just two of the tech-based companies to win Australian Export Awards in Canberra on Tuesday.

Anyone who has seen the excellent movie Peter Rabbit will know that Animal Logic has had a huge 2018, which it capped off by taking the Creative Industries Award at the prestigious Austrade awards.

The company has creative studios in Sydney and Vancouver, while its development arm has offices in Sydney and LA. Animal Logic has a 25 year history of excellence, and has had its eye firmly on international collaborations and export markets since the very beginning.

It is currently in production on The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and visual effects for Captain Marvel, which are both due for release in early 2019.

Hobart’s Echoview Software works with the global scientific community to provide tools to acoustically measure the distribution, abundance and behaviour of fish to assess their population for stock assessment and sustainability studies.

The company works with customers in 65 countries – including with globally renowned research institutions – with 95 per cent of business now coming from export sales. The company took out the Digital Technology Award.

Other finalists for the Digital Technology Award included a large-scale network and infrastructure monitoring software company from Queensland called Akips, and successful SportsTech company Catapult. Freelancer.com, Fluid Management Technology, Metrocount and the ACT’s Seeing Machines were also finalists for this award.

The Sydney-based global distributor of insurance products for online business, Cover Genius, is in scale-up mode with customers now in 191 countries across 41 language zones.

The company has acquired underwriting licences in five overseas markets and last year annual revenue grew by 600 per cent, with export sales accounting for 83 per cent of revenue. It’s no wonder Cover Genius won the Business Services Award category at the export awards.

The hotly contested E-Commerce Award category at the export awards went to a women’s health and fitness app called Sweat, which was founded in Adelaide and now boasts more than 40 million users who have access to 1,000 exercises and 400 recipes in seven languages across 155 countries.

The Health and Biotechnology Award went to Aspen Medical, an ACT-based company thaty provides primary healthcare, emergency healthcare, training, consultancy, medical evacuation and clinics in 16 countries across three continents.

Aspen also too out the top gong for the evening as the Australian Exporter of the Year.
