Federal agencies will gain access to an Australian instance of OpenAI’s GPT-4o as part of a whole-of-government AI service being trialed to accelerate the adoption of AI across the public service.
The purpose-built service, dubbed GovAI, onboarded its first agency earlier this year and is expected to expand to more agencies and additional models like Google Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude before November.
It is the result of at least six months of work, starting with a Microsoft-based AI hosting service built within GovTEAMS, the secure collaboration platform used by the Australian Public Service, in January.
