Local defence companies have chalked up more than $25 million in licence-free exports to the United States and United Kingdom in less than six months under Australia’s new export control regime.
That’s according to Defence minister Richard Marles, who spruiked the apparent milestone just hours after a first meeting with US Defence secretary Pete Hegseth in Washington DC.
AUKUS has faced uncertainty in recent months, with US President Donald Trump yet to publicly comment on the pact that will see the US share technology that allows Australia and the UK build new nuclear submarines.
