Australian Space Park in doubt after SA pulls funding

Plans to build the country’s first dedicated space manufacturing hub have hit a setback after the South Australian government pulled its share of funding from the $66 million project to establish a separate facility that is “more responsive” to industry’s needs.

A further $20 million set aside for the purpose-built facility, dubbed Australian Space Park, also remains tied up in the manufacturing grants program of the former federal government, leaving industry backers without any confirmed government funding two years in.

Announced by former Premier Steven Marshall in December 2021, the space park was originally envisaged as a new home for local space manufacturers Fleet Space Technologies, ATSpace and Alauda Aeronautics, as well as quantum startup Q-CTRL, to build satellites and rockets.
