Australia’s space ‘MacGyver’ sees uptick in demand

Australian startup Space Machines Company only debuted its first rapid-response spacecraft designed to protect satellites eight months ago, but it already has its sights set on the next 100.

Buoyed by growing demand from the United States and other allied nations, the Sydney-based startup is in the midst of a $39 million capital raise to execute on a three-year plan to scale up its Optimus Viper craft.

“The demand we’re seeing… coming out of the US and allied and partner countries for affordable, high maneuverability spacecraft is significant, and that’s shifted a lot in the last five months,” SMC co-founder George Freney told InnovationAus.com.
