The Albanese government’s signature industry policy passed the Parliament on a chaotic final sitting day of the year, setting up a new era of public funding for transformative industries like green hydrogen.
Greens and key crossbenchers on Thursday night voted through the bills, which establish a framework for determining where the public investment goes and regulates the provenance of renewable hydrogen.
A related bill to start subsidising the production of green hydrogen and refining of critical minerals from 2027 will have to wait until next year, but is also now expected to sail through Parliament.
