BoM tech overhaul ‘rebadged’ as costs pass $900m

A new report has confirmed the Bureau of Meteorology’s mammoth tech upgrade is ongoing and will take at least a year and $36 million more than when the project was declared complete by the bureau last June.

The additional funding, revealed this week, is on top of the $886 million already spent on the heavily outsourced tech overhaul, known as ROBUST and considered the BoM’s biggest ever project.

It’s raised doubts about whether an agency under pressure last year and having already dismissed a $1 billion price tag simply “rebadged” the program.
