Budget Insider: Policy wonks unite!

The chief executive officer of high-profile, female-focused angel network Scale Investors, Laura McKenzie, has been named as the final panelist for InnovationAus.com’s Budget Insider 2016, a wine-filled journey into the heart of Scott Morrison’s first Federal budget.

Melbourne-based Ms McKenzie has 17 years’ experience in corporate finance, micro-finance and venture capital across three continents at PwC, Opportunity International and Starfish Ventures.

She joins an intrepid panel of seriously smart people who will slice open the Treasurer’s speech and examine its entrails for signs of nuance and meaning for the innovation sector.

Laura McKenzie: The Scale Investors CEO rounding out Budget Insider 2016

With our event partners Swaab Attorneys and Stone & Chalk, we have put together a program that we promise will deliver a warm glow, regardless of whether the Treasurer manages to knock it out of the park next Tuesday or not.

If you can think of nothing better to do than stand around with a bunch of like-minded policy tragics discussing the highs and lows of innovation in Australia – while drinking good wine and eating good food at the best catered event space in the Sydney CBD – then Budget Insider 2016 is perfect for you.

Be prepared to marvel at the dextrous introduction of possible initiatives to drive commercial research, swoon at the possible mention of entrepreneur visas or some-such thing, or to chuck rocks at the big screen as you lament missed opportunities to make Australia great.

This is a supercool soiree, a meeting of senior minds – all against a backdrop of funk (the awesome Spotify playlist kind of funk, not the pull-a-doona-over-your-head sort we all try to avoid.)

The Budget Insider’s distinguished panel is made up of:

Alex Scandurra, CEO, Stone & Chalk
Rob Fitzpatrick – CEO, AIIA
Kate Carruthers, Deputy Director Business Analytics and Data Governance at UNSW
Yasser El-Ansary – CEO, AVCAL
Peter Cooper, CEO, The Start Society
Jonathan Barouch, CEO, Local Measure
Karen Lawson, Head of Innovation, Slingshot
Leigh Dayton, Science writer, broadcaster and innovation expert
Suzie Matthews, Director, NSW Office of the Small Business Commissioner
Jemma Xu is CEO and Co-Founder at Tripalocal
Laura McKenzie, CEO, Scale Investors
