Calling all tech SMEs: Govt procurement survey 2024

Two signature election commitments that the Albanese government took to the 2022 election were its Buy Australian Plan and the creation of a Future Made in Australia Office.

The aim of these initiatives was to better leverage government spending for industry development purposes. Specifically, the government was looking at procurement reform that would help to deliver stronger industrial capability.

For Australia’s legion of SMEs that deliver digital and technology services, these commitments sounded like good news, especially considering the federal government’s $9 billion-plus technology spend.

InnovationAus.com is again surveying SME companies that sell to government – or have been trying to sell to the federal government – to understand what that experience is like. The Buy Australian Plan and the Future Made in Australia Office are up and running. So, have they made a difference?

We want to hear from suppliers of information technology products and services to the public sector. This survey aims to map the experience of companies selling to the Australian government.

This survey seeks to understand whether the Buy Australia Plan or FMiAO have made a material difference to the experience of Australian tech SMEs selling to federal government customers.

This survey closes at midnight on Monday March 4, 2024. You can start the survey by clicking here.

The empirical results of this survey will be published in InnovationAus.com and the broader insights used to generate discussion and inform debate about industry development, sovereign capability and procurement policy.

This is an opportunity to have your say. The survey is short and simple, although we have left plenty of opportunities within its multiple-choice format to leave additional commentary.

All comments will be anonymised for publication. This is the fourth time InnovationAus.com has conducted its SME selling to government survey. It has over the years provided a valuable snapshot of the SME experience.

The Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says that making the ambition of the Future Made in Australia policy a reality is one of four area of focus for his government in 2024. That’s a serious statement. (The other three priorities are relieving pressure on families; strengthening Medicare; and securing our place in the world.)

This is a serious commitment. It is certainly worth providing some input to the Prime Minister on how the programs are working out right now. The survey takes about ten minutes.

Don’t forget. This survey closes at midnight on Monday March 4, 2024. Click here to have your say.
