The NSW government has moved to enshrine its ID support service in law and add a new state register of compromised documents, with a new bill introduced this week to bolster the nation leading scheme.

The reforms aim to improve protections against stolen or compromised identity documents by improving response measures, supporting victims and even proactively scouring the dark web for personal information.

The measures include a new Compromised Credential Register and fraud check service for government agencies and accredited organisations banks and telcos to verify details.
