Two emerging Australian startups have joined forces to demonstrate qubit control in cryogenic temperatures, a major milestone highlighting a local quantum ecosystem that is coming of age.

Research published on Thursday in Nature journal demonstrates a way to integrate quantum computers at the cryogenic temperatures with classical electronics found in laptops and smartphones, which are designed to work at room temperature.

The research was led by University of Sydney Nano Institute’s David Reilly, who recently spun out quantum startup Emergency Quantum, in partnership with Sydney-based quantum firm Diraq, which was spun out of the University of New South Wales.
