Women working in STEM fields face gender pay gaps worth tens of thousands of dollars a year, some of the highest across the economy, according to newly released data from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency.

But there are some bright spots in the sector, with Gilmour Space Technologies and Facebook among the one third of Australian businesses that reported neutral gender pay gaps — a difference within a five per cent range.

Minister for Women Katy Gallagher described the dataset, released on Tuesday, as an important tool that will support businesses in closing the gender pay gap by creating “transparency and accountability”.
