Google cops $55m fine for anti-competitive conduct

A court has ordered Google Asia Pacific to pay a $55 million fine after the consumer watchdog found it used contracts with Android phone manufacturers and telcos to maintain its search engine’s market dominance.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) in August began Federal Court proceedings after Google admitted it had entered into arrangements “substantially lessening competition” by limiting consumers’ access to other search engines.
