The final polish on the “crown jewel” of artificial intelligence standards is expected next month, paving the way for responsible AI and other accreditation standards, but Australia’s leading AI champion warns businesses are unprepared.

Amid growing fears that artificial intelligence (AI) could herald the end of human history and with a push from tech founders, professionals, and academics to introduce a moratorium on its development, the International Standards Organisation has been plugging away, developing standards for organisations to support responsible development and uptake since 2018.

The latest is an AI management standard beautifully named ‘ISO/IEC FDIS 42001’. It outlines the best-practice process for evaluating whether artificial intelligence (AI) use and development is being done by an organisation responsibly. The global standard is expected to be published before the end of the year.
