ICT pioneers map out innovation wins and woes

Australia’s ICT innovation is suffering from a lack of dedicated government support, procurement opportunities and local advocacy, according to the sector’s pioneers, who warn some barriers have remained over many decades.

While challenges like access to capital have largely been overcome, issues like procurement policy have remained since the sector was born in the late 1940s, when Australia laid claim to one of the world’s first digital computers.

The changes and the current makeup of Australia’s ICT innovation sector are captured in a new report by the University of Sydney Business School and the Pearcey Foundation.
