Sovereign capability has been formally recognised as a policy priority for the Albanese government’s second term, with the Industry department given its marching order to lead the push.
The executive government Administrative Arrangements Orders issued on Tuesday afternoon add the new policy priority to the department’s remit and tweaks several others, including its technology policy directive.
The changes come just hours after newly appointed Industry minister Tim Ayres and assistant minister Andrew Charlton were sworn in, bringing a renewed tech focus to the portfolio.
