Software is a champion of the Australian economy, representing one of the strongest tech subsectors thanks to the snowball effect created by the likes of Atlassian, WiseTech and a growing number of unicorns.

And in a sector already estimated to be worth $167 billion and on track to reach $250 billion by the end of the decade, according to a 2023 report from the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, that is no small feat.

But there is more to do as artificial intelligence is increasingly embedded into software, creating new opportunities to diversify the Australian economy with new export products and services.

This year’s Software Innovation category of the InnovationAus Awards for Excellence, sponsored by TechnologyOne, celebrates the companies that are pioneering software products that contribute significantly to industry and community.

The finalists in this category are:

  • Zepto
  • Nansen.io
  • Acusensus
  • See Me Please

The InnovationAus Awards for Excellence 2024 winners and finalists will be celebrated at a black-tie gala dinner at The Venue Alexandria in Sydney on Wednesday October 30. You can book your tickets here.

Behind the finalists:

Zepto is a Byron Bay-based developer of real-time, account-to-account merchant payment solutions through its API. The fintech is connected to the New Payments Platform and is accredited under the Consumer Data Right.

Nansen.io is an independent specialist in digital forensics and online personal safety whose mission is to highest quality digital forensic and cybersecurity services to its clients.

Acusensus pioneers intelligent solutions that can be rapidly deployed to address road-safety challenges. It’s technology is used to detect illegal mobile phone use by drivers in New South Wales.

See Me Please provides a one-stop-shop for digital teams to access a broad range of diverse and disabled customers for user testing in a way that supports the fast, iterative nature of modern software development.

Since their inception in 2021, the InnovationAus Awards for Excellence continue to spotlight pioneering companies that are driving innovation within this all-important category.

The judging criteria centres on five focus areas that are vital to success: commercial success; translation of intellectual property; the company’s impact on its sector; non-R&D innovations; and applied technologies.

Now in its fourth year, the 2024 awards are supported by the Australian Computer Society, Investment NSW, Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Technology Council of Australia, TechnologyOne, National Artificial Intelligence Centre, CSIRO’s ON Innovation Program, Reason Group, Q-CTRL, University of New South Wales, and IP Australia.
