Local Defence SMEs demand mandated participation rates in contracts

Foreign-owned companies selling to Defence should have mandatory requirements to work with local industry partners, according to the Australian Industry and Defence Network.

The Australian Industry and Defence Network (AIDN), which represents almost 1,000 Australian SMEs, is calling for the existing Australian Industry Capability (AIC) Program to be reformed and legislated.

In a submission to the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation Committee’s inquiry into the performance of Defence procurement in supporting capability and capacity building in Australia’s defence industry, the peak body said the reforms should “mandate AIC for capability acquisition, foreign-owned primes and OEMs [original equipment manufacturers] ”.
