Microsoft Australia’s long-serving managing director Steven Worrall will leave the company to join Telstra InfraCo, the telecommunications giant’s infrastructure arm, as chief executive from September 1.
Mr Worrall will replace Telstra InfraCo’s current chief executive Brendon Riley, who will leave the role at the end of September after 13 years.
At Microsoft, Mr Worrall leads of team of more than 3,000 people, supporting 10,000 partners and third-party software vendors building or selling product on Microsoft platforms across Australia and New Zealand.

Telstra chief executive Vicki Brady said Mr Worrall brought strong delivery experiencein global tech, artificial intelligence and business and consumer segments of the industry, and is known for bringing a collaborative approach to working with public and private sector partners and stakeholders.
“Under Brendon, Telstra InfraCo was launched and is now a strong digital infrastructure business. I’m looking forward to Steven building on this to further develop Telstra InfraCo’s leadership and credentials,” Ms Brady said.
“Steven’s approach to partnerships, such as Microsoft’s $5 billion Australian investment in cloud computing and AI infrastructure, coupled with his experience leading and growing technology and software businesses are great fits for our ambitions for Telstra InfraCo.”
Prior to his time running Microsoft Australia, Mr Worrall spent a decade in senior roles at IBM, including Asia Pacific regional responsibilities within the Software Services group and international growth markets. For a time he also headed IBM’s global Websphere software business.
In a post to LinkedIn, Microsoft Asia President Rodrigo Kede Lima said under Steve Worrall’s leadership, “the Microsoft ANZ business has grown significantly, but more importantly, it’s grown with integrity, innovation, and a deep commitment to people and community.”
Mr Worrall will continue in his role as managing director at Microsoft Australia until August, working with the company during the transition to a new leader, which will be the subject of a future announcement.
