New South Wales has become the first Australian jurisdiction to roll out digital birth certificates for young people aged 16 to 21, enabling them to store the document on their smartphones.
The opt-in Digital Birth Certification became available statewide through the Service NSW app on Tuesday, following years of development that began under the former Coalition government.
