Resource sector secures Future Made slowdown

The Albanese government has stripped out some of the urgency in its critical minerals push, risking a slower start in the global green energy race to assuage mining and business concerns that new players and projects could miss out.

Treasury had initially proposed a requirement that eligibility for generous Future Made in Australia tax production credits would be tied to critical mineral processing projects reaching a final investment decision by 2030.

But it was removed from the final legislation, giving developers longer to obtain regulatory approval and complete infrastructure planning and detailed project designs.
