South Australia’s new AI champion revives sovereign capability push

South Australia’s new assistant minister for artificial intelligence will press his government for more support to capitalise on the state’s renowned research base by growing and attracting more companies.

In his first interview since being named Assistant Minister to the Premier for Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Economy last week, Michael Brown said the state hasn’t grasped the opportunity he laid bare in 2023.

His Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence was one of the first dedicated inquiries, ultimately recommending the state develop a sovereign AI capability and start reskilling workers for a profound technological shift.
