The year ahead: Innovation reform agenda heats up

2024 is shaping up as a big year for technology and innovation reform, with recommendations already piling up on ministers’ desks, consultations closing and pressure mounting from foreign governments.

Early announcements by Industry and Science minister Ed Husic are expected to include the government’s response to a risk-based model for regulating artificial intelligence and another attempt at moving the needle on diversity in Australia’s STEM fields.

Meanwhile, Finance minister Katy Gallagher already has her hands on a review of procurement rules that have historically locked small suppliers out of Canberra’s “in crowd”.
