Building trust and adoption of artificial intelligence in Australia would be the focus of the Albanese government’s upcoming regulatory framework, with Industry minister Ed Husic still weighing a risk-based or principles approach.

In an address on Thursday Mr Husic backed AI, robotics and automation as genuine answers to some of Australia’s productivity problems. But he warned the value would not be gained without building skills, confidence and a greater risk appetite.

It comes as submissions to the current consultation on an AI regulatory framework are released, showing overwhelming support for more AI ‘guardrails,’ but  a split between industry and others on what these guardrails should be.
