Understanding IP rights and the opportunities for Australia

Michael Schwager says he has the best job in the Australian Public Service as director general of IP Australia. I hear this line surprisingly often, perhaps because I am fortunate enough to interview so many smart, interesting, optimistic leaders from both the public and private sectors.

But Mr Schwager is pretty convincing, and it might just be true. IP Australia has a clear mission, it enjoys broad support across the political spectrum, and it underpins the system that enables intellectual property and innovation to be diffused across the economy for the benefit of all Australians.

So it has impact. And right now, the world is passing through this period of incredible technological change. In the world of IP rights, there is quite simply a lot going on right now.
