A landmark review of higher education is a potential “game changer” for an Australian innovation system that relies heavily on university research. But institutions have expressed doubts about how it and other multi-billion-dollar reforms will be paid for.
The final report from the year-long Universities Accord process was published on Sunday with recommendations to significantly grow Australia’s stagnating R&D system.
It backs the sector’s long running call for a root and branch review of research investment that would inform a more strategic, whole of government approach to funding and exploiting innovation.
