The humble roadside curb is becoming an increasingly contested and important space.
With the expansion of some restaurants and cafes, the growing use of ride-hailing pick-ups and drop-offs and loading zones, traffic is often being disrupted and sometimes leading to cities being brought to a standstill.
These curbs that were once passive zones are now contested urban frontiers, and cities around the world are grappling with how to properly monitor them and manage their use.
That’s the problem that the Victoria-based SenSen Networks is looking to address with its live curb management platform, which has been used in Brisbane, Chicago, Montreal and Singapore.
The platform combines cameras, sensors and enterprise systems to deliver actionable insights in real-time, helping cities to optimise public spaces, enforce rules and boost net-zero transport initiatives.

Its platform creates a responsive digital curb, and can adapt to specific time of day rules, vehicle types and changing city demands, helping to enforce parking laws, improve traffic flow and reduce emissions.
Earlier this year SenSen Networks inked a contract extension with the Brisbane City Council to provide its fixed and mobile curb management solutions for another four additional years.
