Bioengineering startup Number 8 Bio’s microorganisms could greatly scale the feed additive production process, cutting livestock greenhouse gas emissions and boosting productivity.

CSIRO spin-out Future Feed holds the patent for using Asparagopsis as a methane reducing feed additive, Number 8 Bio has engineered yeast cells to produce “the same functional molecules” using fermentation, the process that raises bread.

A successful participant of the first cohort of UNSW’s accelerator program, Number 8 Bio announced the completion of a $1.8 million pre-seed funding round on Wednesday.
