Digital platforms in TIO’s sights as complaints surge

Expanding the telecommunications sector ombudsmans’ responsibilities to cover online shops and social media platforms has widespread public support and is the “key next step” in government online safety reforms, its leader says.

Australians are losing almost $500 million a year to unresolved online complaints, a new report commissioned by the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) has estimated, while most believe business-led dispute systems do not work.
