Biden to push US ‘domestic source’ status for Aussie industry

United States President Joe Biden will ask Congress to treat Australian companies the same way it does local players in procurement, while the two countries continue working to soften defence technology export controls.

Mr Biden made the commitment on the sidelines of the G7 in Hiroshima, Japan over the weekend after meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at a shortened version of the Quad leaders’ summit.

The two leaders also agreed to an Australia-US Climate, Critical Minerals and Clean Energy Transformation Compact, promising greater access to generous subsidies through the landmark US$369 billion US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
