BoM technology projects hit by an Estimates whirlwind

The head of the Bureau of Meteorology was challenged by senators on Wednesday after not answering a series of questions about suspected cost blow outs in its technology projects and suggestions that consultants had ‘landed and expanded’ inside his agency.

Fronting Senate estimates, BoM chief executive Dr Andrew Johnson again defended the secrecy surrounding the bureau’s IT overhaul, delays to its supercomputers, and the management of contracts with Accenture and Deloitte.

Dr Johnson said media reports that the overhaul of the BoM’s ICT systems and observing networks, dubbed ROBUST, had cost almost a billion dollars were inaccurate.
