NSW developing trust breach law after PwC scandal

Consultants and advisers that breach government trust in New South Wales face multi-million dollar fines and shadow bans under changes being developed by the Minns government.

Other state and territory governments are being urged to follow, as the fallout from the PwC tax leaks scandal continues.

A new New South Wales law applying to breaches of confidential tax information is being developed to establish the fines. The multi-million dollar penalties are intended to at least make a dent on the massive revenues of large consulting firms, while criminal referrals will also remain an option.
