Oracle clears hurdle for government cloud push

Oracle has been cleared to host sensitive and whole-of-government data on its physically isolated cloud in Canberra, making it the only cloud player to have been certified twice under the federal government’s data sovereignty scheme.

The region, which has been purpose-built for government and Defence workloads and came online last year, achieved the ‘certified strategic’ accreditation in July, opening the door to more public sector work amid rapid growth in the cloud infrastructure market.

Certified strategic is the highest level of assurance under the Hosting Certification Framework (HCF), which was introduced in 2021 to temper data sovereignty and risk exposure concerns for both data centre and cloud services providers.
