Oracle eyes Canberra’s Secret cloud market

US cloud giant Oracle has unveiled a new physically isolated cloud region in Canberra it says goes further than its competitors are willing to go and could one day host Defence and the government’s most prized data and systems.

The region will be available only to public sector organisations and their partners and has been “purpose-built” for the workloads of Australian Government customers and their service providers.

Oracle, which has won almost $1.2 billion in federal work in the last decade, says there is a growing market for genuinely sovereign cloud services, and it has commitments from government customers to justify the investment in the new region.
