Vic budget tips $200m into police, child protection IT upgrades


The Victorian government has thrown more than $200 million behind a multi-year upgrade of the state’s police and child protection IT systems in a budget that delivers the first surplus in seven years.

Victorian Treasurer Jaclyn Symes handed down the 2026 budget on Tuesday, calling it a “disciplined” plan focused on the economy as the supply disruptions caused by the US-Israel war with Iran drive prices higher.
