Victoria’s consulting spend back at 2018 levels

Spending on external consultants in the Victorian government has returned to 2018 levels, with new data released by the state’s auditor-general showing a sharp drop off in work last year.

The big four consulting giants – Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC – have been particularly hard hit, with government outlays plummeting two-thirds since the height of the pandemic.

PwC witnessed the biggest plunge in the wake of the tax leaks scandal that effectively banned it from federal work until mid-2025, securing just $2.6 million from the state government last financial year. Its spin-off Scyne Advisory fared no better with $1.4 million.
