AWS’s Canberra mega-deal surges past $400m

A controversial AWS whole of government agreement has surged to more than $400 million in just four months, putting it on pace to eclipse both previous iterations by the end of the year.

The latest contract under the arrangement will see Defence pay AWS around $1 million a month for the next three years to consume its cloud services for less sensitive workloads.

It is the 20th contract signed by federal agencies with AWS under the supplier’s third whole of government agreement, which came into effect in April amid a government review of the sourcing arrangements.
