DTA won’t reveal true cost of Canberra’s AWS mega-deal

A federal government decision to withhold the cost of its latest three-year cloud mega-deal with Amazon Web Services has sparked transparency concerns and criticism that it has been strong-armed by Big Tech.

In February, the Digital Transformation Agency announced it had inked a new cloud sourcing arrangement with AWS for an undisclosed value, replacing an existing deal weeks before it was due to end and ahead of a review of single sourcing arrangements.

The standing offer arrangement gives federal, state and, for the first time, local governments access to more than 240 AWS cloud services using a simplified contracting model.
