The new chief information officer of NSW Health Richard Taggart began his tenure this week, eight months since his predecessor vacated the role.
Mr Taggart also takes the reins of eHealth NSW, the agency’s digital centre of excellence responsible for technology in Australia’s largest health system.
Formerly the national director of digital health at Calvary Health Care, Mr Taggart brings more than 20 years of ICT experience, with a majority of that time spent in the healthcare sector.
This includes a four-year stint as the chief information officer for the Sydney Local Health District and led the digital health and innovation team.
He oversaw major initiatives like the NSW Health Vaccination Centre systems and the Royal Prince Alfred virtual hospital, which services patients remotely using videoconferencing and wearable devices.
In a statement, Mr Taggart said he is excited to get settled in his new role and help support eHealth NSW’s “incredible track record of innovation and service delivery”.
eHealth NSW’s former lead Zoran Bolevich moved to head up the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare last May. In the interim, NSW Health clinical director for system sustainability and performance Associate Professor Amith Shetty has been acting in the role.
