Google facing adtech class action from local businesses

Google is facing a class action from Australian businesses over the fees it charges for advertising technology, after regulators around the world started closing in on the US tech giant.

Slater and Gordon on Thursday invited businesses to register for its investigation of anticompetitive practices by Google in adtech – the murky stack of technologies that allows online advertisements.

Google has for decades dominated key parts of the adtech market, prompting concerns from Australia’s competition regulator, which warned in 2021 the dominance has chilled competition and driven fees up.
